Travel Vaccines

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL & VACCINE CLINIC
We often receive email or phone inquiries wanting to know what vaccines are needed for an upcoming trip.
Assessing the need for vaccinations requires a compehensive assessment taking into account the individuals vaccination history, health history and specific itinerary.  For example, you might already have received a series of Hepatitis A or Hepatitis B shots, so even though they maybe recommended for your upcoming trip, you will not get it again.  Another scenario is clients travelling into a Yellow Fever zone, yet have a health condition for which the Yellow Fever vaccine is contraindicated.
As a guideline, we recommend that all your routine vaccinations are up-to-date.  Country specific recommendations depend on the type and length of travel, your exact itinerary and of course your health and previous vaccination history.  Please understand that we cannot give recommendations via email or on the phone, however, you can get an overall idea of vaccinations and prescriptions required or recommended through various accredited resources online and compare to your records.
We do recommend that you see a travel health specialist to discuss your itinerary, health history and vaccination records.  Our consultants continuously monitor worldwide disease outbreaks, WHO and Centre of Disease Control alerts.  Specific recommendations may vary between regions in one country or even the season.  Besides vaccines, a trained travel consultant can also provide you with prescriptions for medicines you might need, such as malaria prophylaxis, altitude sickness prevention and travellers diarrhoea treatment.
In general, we suggest travellers make an appointment about  4 – 6 weeks prior to departure to allow for vaccines that might need boosters before the trip to be effective.
